UK Medical Admissions

Medical school

How the UK Medical process works

Medical school admissions are highly competitive in the UK. Each medical school has its own entry requirements, assessment tests, and interview methods. At Hansard, we have current and ex-medicine graduates to provide all the necessary guidance to submit a successful application, including UCAT & BMAT test preparation, interview prep, and a personal statement.

Standard Applicants

A*AA at A-levels, including Biology and Chemistry, are the required grades for applicants at this level.

International Baccalaureate: A total of at least 35 points, with three Higher Level subjects at 766, including Chemistry and Biology. Generally, it is a 5-6-year long degree, depending on the university.

Graduate Applicants

Bioscience graduates will be considered with a minimum of 2:1 (upper second-class honours), and all other graduates with 2:1 grades and AA at A-Level in both Biology and Chemistry (or international equivalent). Generally, it is a four-year accelerated degree.

Admissions test: UCAT & BMAT

The University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT) is a computer-based test that takes place between May and September. UCAS publishes the results in early November and delivers it directly to the universities.

The Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT) is a 2-hour medical admissions assessment. BMAT's October session starts in September and finishes at the end of October. BMAT publishes the results near the end of November and delivers it directly to the universities.

Student reviews

A friend of mine recommended me to Hansard from his personal experience dealing with his admissions process to top UK universities. My consultant Francis helped me edit my personal statement and six competency questions about entrepreneurship during the application process. I also had a good prep session before my interview with the admission tutor. I also received good support after receiving an offer with a CAS interview to get the visa letter. I had a stress-free application process, and my consultant was incredibly helpful.
